Is There a FedEx Ground Flat Rate? No. Use This
FedEx has no Ground flat rate because One Rate covers Express only. See the closest substitute, ground-speed alternatives and when weight-based Ground wins.
Short answer: FedEx Ground and Home Delivery have no flat rate
No. FedEx does not offer a flat rate on FedEx Ground or FedEx Home Delivery. FedEx One Rate, the only FedEx flat rate program, covers six Express services, so Ground parcels are priced by billable weight, zone and surcharges. The closest FedEx substitute is Express Saver One Rate, which delivers on the third business day.
If you searched for a "FedEx Ground flat rate box" and found nothing, that is why. The program exists, but it sits on the Express side of FedEx, and FedEx's own One Rate pricing document lists Express services only.
Your real options are three:
- Ship FedEx Ground or Home Delivery at a weight-based rate.
- Switch to a FedEx Express service that has a One Rate price.
- Use a flat rate from another carrier, such as USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate or UPS Simple Rate.
What FedEx One Rate covers and why Ground is priced by weight and zone
FedEx One Rate is a fixed price per FedEx package type and service. It applies to these six services:
- FedEx Express Saver
- FedEx 2Day
- FedEx 2Day A.M.
- FedEx Standard Overnight
- FedEx Priority Overnight
- FedEx First Overnight
You must ship in FedEx branded packaging: Envelope, Extra Small Box, Pak, Small Box, Medium Box, Large Box, Extra Large Box or Tube (sizes and free supply). The Envelope can weigh up to 10 pounds. Paks, boxes and tubes can weigh up to 50 pounds.
FedEx Ground works differently. The price depends on the billable weight, which is the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight (cubic inches divided by 139), and on the zone between origin and destination. Surcharges such as residential delivery and fuel are then added, so there is no single price per box. Our guide to dimensional weight shows how the billable weight is worked out.
The closest FedEx substitute: Express Saver One Rate
If you want a FedEx flat rate, Express Saver is the nearest thing to Ground. It is the slowest of the six One Rate services, with delivery on the third business day by 5 p.m. FedEx's published Express Saver One Rate prices, effective April 20, 2026, run from $12.75 for the Envelope to $42.75 for the Extra Large Box or Tube (FedEx One Rate pricing PDF). Every box on every service is in FedEx One Rate prices 2026.
Express Saver and 2Day carry one price in every zone band. The faster overnight services vary by distance. These are carrier list prices, not what any GoatLabels customer pays. 2Day One Rate costs the same and arrives a day sooner, so quote 2Day when it is offered.
Know the limits before you build a plan around this:
- The price includes fuel, residential and delivery area surcharges.
- Saturday delivery, signature options, declared value above $100, on-call pickup and address corrections are billed on top.
- FedEx states that no account discounts apply to the One Rate tables.
- Express Saver is not available to Alaska and Hawaii.
- An Envelope more than 3 inches on its shortest side, or a Pak more than 5 inches, is re-rated as a One Rate box by cubic volume.
Check the transit estimate for your lane before assuming Express Saver is faster than Ground. For a side-by-side with USPS, read FedEx One Rate vs Priority Mail Flat Rate.
Ground-speed flat rate alternatives
Two other carriers sell a flat price on ground-speed parcels.
USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate. You pack in USPS flat rate envelopes and boxes, and the price depends on the container, not on weight or zone. A container can hold up to 70 pounds. Priority Mail is quoted at 2 to 3 days and is not guaranteed. It includes up to $100 of insurance. Look up current prices on usps.com.
UPS Simple Rate. You pack in your own box, and UPS sets the price by size band measured in cubic inches, from extra small to extra large. According to UPS, a package over 1,728 cubic inches or over 50 pounds has to use standard UPS rates instead. Check current prices on ups.com.
| Option | Box | Priced by | Upper limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| FedEx Express Saver One Rate | FedEx packaging | Package type | 50 lb (Envelope 10 lb) |
| USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate | USPS packaging | Container | 70 lb |
| UPS Simple Rate | Your own box | Size band | 1,728 cu in and 50 lb |
When weight-based FedEx Ground costs less than a flat rate
A flat rate charges the same whether the box holds a pound or the maximum. If your parcel is light, the flat price pays for capacity you did not use. A weight-based Ground label for a light parcel going a short distance is usually cheaper than any flat rate.
Two more reasons to keep Ground in the comparison:
- If you hold FedEx account discounts, they do not apply to One Rate. Compare One Rate against your discounted Ground rate, not against list.
- Flat rates only apply when the parcel fits the program. Over 50 pounds, FedEx One Rate is off the table. Over 70 pounds, Priority Mail Flat Rate is too.
Flat rates win in the opposite case: a dense, heavy parcel going far, or a bulky box where dimensional weight inflates the Ground price. Our page on flat rate vs weight-based shipping covers where that line sits.
Decision table: weight x distance x deadline
Use this to decide which service to quote first. It names the service to compare, never a price, because the winner depends on your lane and your rates.
| Parcel weight | Distance | Deadline | Compare first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 2 lb | Zones 2 to 4 | None | Weight-based FedEx Ground against weight-based USPS and UPS |
| Under 2 lb | Zones 5 to 8 | None | Weight-based rates; flat rate rarely pays off |
| 2 to 10 lb | Any | Third business day | 2Day or Express Saver One Rate Envelope or Pak against weight-based Ground |
| 10 to 50 lb, dense | Zones 5 to 8 | None | Priority Mail Flat Rate and UPS Simple Rate (if it fits) against FedEx Ground |
| Bulky but light | Any | None | UPS Simple Rate and Priority Mail Flat Rate against Ground dimensional weight |
| Up to 50 lb | Any | Third business day or sooner | 2Day or Express Saver One Rate in the smallest FedEx box that fits; a faster One Rate service if sooner |
| 50 to 70 lb | Any | None | Priority Mail Flat Rate against weight-based Ground |
| Over 70 lb | Any | Any | No flat rate option; weight-based rates only |
Compare all three carriers per parcel
The right answer changes with weight, size, distance and deadline, so no single flat rate wins for every order. The only way to see it is to price the same parcel on USPS, UPS and FedEx at once. GoatLabels does that per parcel, quoting USPS, UPS and FedEx on domestic parcels (DHL on international lanes), paid from a prepaid wallet, with no monthly fee on Free (up to 50 shipments a month).
