How a small business can get discounted UPS rates

Here is what UPS publishes.

A small business can get discounted UPS rates from a personalized UPS offer on a free profile or account, from Daily Rates with a scheduled pickup or contract, or from Small Business Rates by agreement; UPS also says you do not need a UPS account to ship with one of its Digital Access partners, which are third-party platforms. A 20 lb UPS Ground box in zone 5 lists $41.31 on Retail, $26.97 on Daily and $17.56 on Small Business Rates, before fuel and surcharges, from UPS guides checked November 5, 2026. These are UPS's rates, not GoatLabels prices. GoatLabels label prices are the same on Free and Pro, and you cannot bring your own UPS contract.

Where do UPS discounts for a small business come from?

Most of the routes UPS publishes run through a UPS profile, account or agreement, and UPS also names third-party platforms you can ship through without a UPS account. The short version: start with UPS's personalized offer, move off Retail Rates if you ship every week, and ask UPS about Small Business Rates if your parcels are heavy or your surcharges are high. Each route has its own terms, so compare the offer on your own parcels, not on an advertised figure.

UPS facts, checked

Published carrier rates and surcharges are a benchmark, not what a GoatLabels label costs: a GoatLabels quote is one all-in number per carrier for your packed parcel.

UPS route What UPS says it is What it takes Source
Personalized shipping discount Answer a few questions about your shipping needs, review a commitment-free offer, and UPS applies it automatically when you create a shipment. A UPS.com profile or a UPS shipping account, both free. UPS shipping discount page

Daily Rates in place of Retail Rates Daily Rates apply with a scheduled UPS pickup or a UPS contract that provides them. Retail Rates apply from a UPS location, without a payment account or scheduled pickup, or when you ship infrequently on a payment card. A scheduled pickup, which carries its own fee, or a contract. UPS Small Business Rates A separate published price list with reduced rates and fewer fees, on a one-page agreement, for UPS account holders whose agreement provides for these rates. UPS Digital Access Program partners UPS says you do not need a UPS account to ship with one of its Digital Access (DAP) partners, which are third-party shipping platforms, and that a free UPS account still adds features such as shipping discounts. No UPS account, per UPS. UPS's account page publishes no rate for this route. UPS open an account page
UPS Hundredweight Service For two or more packages going to the same place on the same business day, as an alternative to less-than-truckload. A UPS contract, with a shipment minimum of 200 lb on Ground and 100 lb on Air. UPS Hundredweight rates; UPS guide p.7
UPS Digital Connections Funding and discounts on technology from UPS-approved vendors, such as store platforms and warehouse software. It is not a label rate. An agreement with a minimum shipping revenue commitment, after a UPS expert confirms eligibility. UPS Digital Connections

Checked 2026-11-05. UPS's pages also advertise an "up to" figure for some of these offers; this page does not repeat it, because an "up to" figure is a ceiling, not your rate.

How far apart are UPS's published price lists?

In the sample below, Small Business Rates sit below Daily Rates and Daily Rates sit below Retail Rates at every weight and zone, before surcharges. UPS publishes no price list for a personalized offer, so that route is not in the table.

UPS Ground by price list at 10, 20 and 50 lb in zones 2, 5 and 8: Retail, Daily, Daily with fuel, and Small Business Rates, checked 2026-11-05

Checked 2026-11-05: UPS Retail Rate guide, updated September 7, 2026 (pp.84-85); UPS Daily Rate guide, updated September 7, 2026 (pp.89-90); UPS Small Business Rate guide, updated January 26, 2026 (pp.28-29); fuel from UPS fuel surcharges. UPS's rates, not GoatLabels prices.

Fuel changes the first step. UPS says its Ground fuel surcharge does not apply to UPS Ground from the 48 states at Retail rates, so at 10 and 20 lb in zone 2 the table's Retail price is below Daily with fuel. Daily Rates also need a scheduled pickup or a contract, and the pickup has its own fee, so an occasional shipper on short lanes should do the sum before switching.

What do UPS Small Business Rates change besides the rate?

They change most of the surcharges too: UPS's guide sets lower amounts on residential, handling and large package charges, and waives area charges in the 48 states and the demand charges on handling and large packages. Fuel is the exception that is moving, because UPS adds it to these rates on December 21, 2026.

Example: a 60 lb box to a business in zone 5. It weighs over 50 lb, so UPS adds Additional Handling for weight on either list, at a different amount, and only the Daily Rates column carries fuel today.

Who qualifies for UPS Small Business Rates?

UPS's pages do not publish a volume or revenue line, so the honest answer is to ask UPS. Its Small Business Rates page sends new shippers to the questions on its discount page and existing account holders to a free virtual consultation, and its guide says the rates are for account holders whose agreement provides for them. The same page says the agreement runs to a single page.

Which UPS route fits which shipper?

The right route depends on how often you ship and how heavy your boxes are, and these are starting points, not UPS's own rules.

  • A few boxes a month: take the personalized offer on a free UPS profile and compare it with Retail Rates, which carry no Ground fuel surcharge from the 48 states.
  • Boxes every week: open a free shipping account and price a scheduled pickup, since Daily Rates apply with one.
  • Heavy or bulky parcels, or many home deliveries: ask about Small Business Rates first, because the table above lists lower handling, large package and residential amounts on that list as well as lower base rates.
  • If you would rather not hold a UPS account: UPS says you can ship with one of its Digital Access partners without one, so compare that platform's price with a UPS offer on your own parcels.
  • Several heavy boxes to one address on one day: ask about UPS Hundredweight Service, which is contract-only and has a shipment minimum.

What should you check before you accept a UPS offer?

Check the whole bill on your own parcels, because a lower base rate can sit beside charges that a headline number leaves out.

  1. Pull a month of real parcels with their billable weight, zone and address type.
  2. Price them on the offer, including fuel, residential, handling and pickup fees.
  3. Check which services and weights the offer covers, and what stays on Daily Rates and UPS's terms.
  4. Re-price after December 21, 2026, when UPS changes rates, the Additional Handling minimum and the Small Business Rates fuel line.
  5. Compare the total with a USPS Ground Advantage or FedEx price for the same parcels; the USPS Ground Advantage vs UPS Ground crossover shows where each list is lower.

Can GoatLabels apply your UPS discount?

No: GoatLabels cannot use your own UPS or FedEx account, contract or negotiated rates, so a discount UPS gives you stays on your UPS account.

What GoatLabels does and does not do. GoatLabels prices USPS (up to 70 lb), UPS and FedEx side by side on domestic parcels, and DHL on international lanes, one all-in number each before you buy, with no carrier account needed. Label prices are the same on the Free and Pro plans, and Free covers 50 shipments a month. High-volume shippers can ask about custom pricing, which we review account by account. There is no automatic volume tier.

The limits: you cannot bring your own carrier contract, and GoatLabels does not sell UPS Hundredweight Service, freight or LTL. Sign up in seconds. Your first top-up may need an approved application. A quote you read before approval can change after it. Carrier adjustments after delivery post to the same wallet. To compare fairly, price the same packed parcel on your UPS rates and on a GoatLabels quote, and keep whichever works for that parcel.

UPS discounts for small business: FAQ

How do I get a UPS discount as a small business?
Start with UPS. Answer the questions on its personalized shipping discount page for an offer on a free UPS profile or shipping account, and if you ship every week, ask UPS about Daily Rates with a scheduled pickup or about UPS Small Business Rates. UPS decides that offer from your shipping needs, and it lives on your UPS account. UPS also says you do not need a UPS account to ship with one of its Digital Access partners, which are third-party shipping platforms.
Do I need a UPS account to get a UPS discount?
UPS says you need a UPS.com profile or a UPS shipping account to apply its personalized discount. Both are free, and a shipping account also needs a payment method. To ship directly with UPS you do not need an account, but without a payment account or scheduled pickup Retail Rates apply. UPS also says you do not need a UPS account to ship with one of its Digital Access partners.
What are UPS Small Business Rates?
A separate price list UPS publishes for account holders whose UPS agreement provides for those rates. It lists lower base rates than Daily Rates in the sample on this page, waives some charges and sets lower amounts on others. On December 21, 2026 UPS raises these rates and adds a fuel surcharge to them.
Can I use my UPS discount or contract on GoatLabels?
No. GoatLabels cannot use your own UPS or FedEx account, contract or negotiated rates, so a discount UPS gives you stays on your UPS account. To compare, price the same packed parcel on your UPS rates and on a GoatLabels quote.
Does GoatLabels have volume pricing?
There is no automatic volume tier. High-volume shippers can ask about custom pricing, which we review account by account. Label prices are the same on the Free and Pro plans.
