EasyPost charges per-shipment API fees once you pass its free-tier cap, while GoatLabels' REST API stays free and unlimited at any volume — you pay only carrier rates.
USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL quoted all-in — nothing is added on top of the number you see.
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, or crypto — spent label by label, with nothing to reconcile.
Both platforms hand carrier money to carriers. The difference is the second line: a metered per-shipment fee that switches on above a threshold, versus no platform fee at any volume.
| GoatLabels | EasyPost | |
|---|---|---|
| What the platform charges | Nothing per shipment and nothing per API call. You pay the carrier rate. | A per-shipment fee on API traffic once you pass the free tier — see their pricing page. |
| What happens at the free-tier cap | There is no API cap to hit. Calls are unlimited on every plan, including Free. | Traffic past the included shipments becomes billable, so cost turns on at a threshold. |
| Cost of a rate quote you don't buy | Zero. Rate-shop as often as you like; only a purchased label costs anything. | Depends on how the plan meters requests — worth reading their terms closely. |
| Cost of a month you don't ship | Zero. The wallet is prepaid and there is no monthly minimum to print. | Plan-dependent — a subscription line does not go away in a slow month. |
| How you predict next month | Shipments × carrier rate. There is no second variable to model. | Shipments × carrier rate, plus platform fees above the cap, plus plan tier. |
| What a growth spike does | Per-label rates go down with volume on Pro. Nothing new switches on. | Volume is the thing that triggers the fee, so the bill grows with the good news. |

A per-shipment platform fee is the one line item that scales precisely with success. The month a product lands is the month you find out what the cap really cost you. An unlimited free API removes that variable from the model entirely.
Forecasting shipping should be shipments times carrier rate. Add a metered platform fee with a threshold in it and you are modelling a step function — and reconciling a platform invoice against carrier charges every month.
A generous included allowance is a fine way to evaluate a platform and a bad thing to build a business on, because the day you outgrow it is a day you did not schedule. Unlimited is a number that does not need watching.
Follow one shipment through and you can see the whole cost model. An order arrives — synced from a store, pasted from a message, dropped as a screenshot, or created over the API — and Billy drafts the addresses, the parcel, and the service. Rate-shopping USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL costs nothing whether or not you buy. When you do buy, one all-in number is debited from a prepaid wallet you topped up with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, or crypto, and that debit is the entire charge: no per-shipment platform fee, no metered API call, no month-end invoice to reconcile against it.
Hey! 2x hoodies (M) 1x tee (L) 😅 Ship to: Maya R. Austin, TX 78701
Every intake path — connector, API, DM, screenshot — costs the same to use: nothing.
The quoted number is the debit. There is no second charge behind it.
Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, and TikTok Shop sync into To Ship and get tracking pushed back when you print, and none of that traffic is metered. Orders that arrive as an Instagram or Facebook DM get pasted or screenshotted into Billy, and those are not metered either — because nothing here is.
Via AI tiles: an order that never became a record still becomes a label.
Removing a per-shipment charge should not remove capability. This is the surface you keep — four-carrier rate shopping, a real REST API, connectors — plus the two things a metered platform does not give you: AI drafting included, and a prepaid wallet with no minimum under it.
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH bank transfer, and crypto all top up the same balance, and every method buys identical rates, carriers, and features. Void a shipment and the credit lands back in the wallet rather than on a statement weeks later.
A DM, a comment thread, a voice note, a screenshot — Billy reads any of them into a drafted label, unlimited in the web app on Free. It is not a tier and it is not billed per document.
Fund the wallet, pay per label, and ship nothing in February without paying for February. Pro is a flat optional plan that lowers per-label pricing as volume grows — the opposite direction from a fee that grows with it.
Live all-in rates side by side, and the number you see is the exact amount that leaves your balance. Quoting is free and unmetered, so rate-shopping every parcel — including the ones you never ship — never shows up on a bill.
REST and JSON, one Bearer header, idempotency keys so a retry cannot double-buy a label, and signed webhooks for tracking and label events. Unlimited calls on every plan means the API never becomes a cost centre as you scale.

Label ready

Cost is not only what a platform bills you — it is the hours before the first label prints and the ones spent reconciling afterwards. Paste the message, snap the thread, or hold the mic, and the same four-carrier rate shopping runs from the device in your hand at no additional charge.
When the platform fee is zero, the only number worth asking about is the carrier rate. Hold the mic, say who it is going to, and Billy looks up the buyer, rate-shops USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL, and queues the label against your prepaid balance — then reads the all-in price back before a cent moves. This is the real product, not a render.

Plain English in — names, addresses, weights, carriers, services · no metered calls behind it · reads the all-in rate back before a cent leaves the wallet · phone, browser, or Telegram.
Three carriers on the same parcel, each an all-in number that is the exact amount leaving your prepaid balance. There is no platform fee stacked behind the quote and no monthly reconciliation between a carrier charge and a shipping-software invoice — and voiding a shipment credits the wallet.

REST, JSON, one Bearer header. Real idempotency keys so a retried request cannot double-buy a label, signed webhooks for tracking and label events instead of polling, and errors that name what to fix. Retries, health checks, and rate lookups you never buy all cost the same as everything else here: nothing.

Free covers 50 shipments a month with the public API, the store connectors, and Billy all unlimited underneath it — we make a little on each label instead. Pro is a flat monthly fee for unlimited shipments, cheaper label pricing, and Billy on Telegram. There is no request meter on either plan, so no threshold exists for your volume to cross.

ShippoPirateShipShipStationLabel prices are quoted live from USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL and shown as one all-in number — the same number that leaves your wallet. EasyPost's tiers and per-shipment fees move, so model your own volume against their current pricing page. Full pricing details
Metered pricing is harmless at low volume and expensive at the volume you are aiming for. These are the shippers for whom the second variable is worth removing from the model — and the ones who should stay are named on this page too.
TikTok Shop & live commerce
Volume that arrives in bursts is exactly what blows through an included allowance. Pre-fund the wallet before a drop, print all night, and pay nothing through the quiet weeks after it.

Etsy & independent creators
One variable is easier to forecast than a step function. Shipments times carrier rate is the whole formula, and a slow month lands at zero instead of a floor.

The API is what every shipping API pretends to be. Idempotency that actually works.
