Shipping From Singapore to the US for Online Sellers

How Singapore-based online sellers ship parcels to US buyers: setting a Singapore origin, comparing carrier rates, customs forms and syncing marketplace orders.

A Singapore-based online seller can ship to US buyers by setting a Singapore ship-from address in GoatLabels, syncing orders from a connected store or pasting them in, comparing carrier rates side by side for each parcel, completing the customs declaration at label time, and paying per label from a prepaid wallet with no monthly fee. GoatLabels supports both US and Singapore origins in the same account, which matters for sellers who stock in both places. This guide covers setup, customs, carrier choice and a worked example.

Who is this for?

This guide is written for three kinds of sellers:

  • Singapore brands selling to Americans through Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop or another connected store, shipping each order from Singapore.
  • Cross-border sellers with stock in both countries who ship domestic US orders from a US location and everything else from Singapore.
  • Singapore sellers taking orders by message on Instagram or Facebook who need a label without a storefront.

If you fulfil entirely from a US warehouse, the international part of this guide does not apply, but the multi-origin section does.

How do you set a Singapore origin?

GoatLabels supports US and Singapore ship-from addresses. Setting one up follows the same path as a US origin:

  1. Sign up at /signup and load the prepaid wallet.
  2. Add a ship-from address in account settings with your Singapore address and postal code.
  3. If you also ship from the US, add that address as a second origin. Each order can then be quoted from whichever origin holds the stock.
  4. Connect your stores. Any of the 13 live connectors, including Shopify, Etsy, TikTok Shop, Amazon and eBay, will sync orders into the "To Ship" queue.

Orders from a connected store arrive with the US buyer's address already filled in. Orders that come by message are pasted in and the AI assistant drafts the label.

What goes on the customs declaration?

Every parcel leaving Singapore for the US needs a customs declaration, and the label flow asks for it before you buy. Fill in each line item with:

  • A plain description of the goods. "Cotton T-shirt" is useful to a customs officer; "Item 4432" is not.
  • Quantity and unit value in the currency you sold in.
  • Country of origin of the goods, which is where they were made, not where you are shipping from.
  • Harmonised tariff code where you know it. It speeds clearance and reduces the chance of a parcel being held for questions.
  • The reason for export, which for a sale is "merchandise" or "sale of goods".

Declare accurately. Under-declaring value to help a buyer avoid duties is the fastest way to have parcels held, returned, or worse. US customs rules on low-value imports have changed in recent years, so check the current treatment of the value band your parcels fall in. The customs forms for small parcels page covers the form fields in more detail.

How do you compare carriers from Singapore?

Once the package details and customs lines are in, GoatLabels quotes the services available for a Singapore origin to that US address side by side. The comparison is the same idea as a domestic US quote: one price per service, with the estimated transit time next to it. Choose based on:

  • Transit time the buyer expects. International delivery estimates shown at checkout should match the service you actually buy.
  • Tracking depth. Some services track end to end and some hand off with thinner visibility. For a marketplace order where you may need to prove delivery, end-to-end tracking is worth paying for.
  • Weight and dimensions. Rate differences between services widen as parcels get heavier, so the side-by-side view earns its keep on anything above a kilogram.

Enter weight in the unit your scale reads and keep dimensions accurate. Volumetric pricing applies to international parcels the same way dimensional weight applies domestically.

A worked example: a 400 g apparel order to California

A buyer in Los Angeles orders two printed T-shirts from your Shopify store. Packed in a poly mailer the parcel weighs 400 g and measures 30 x 22 x 3 cm. Your stock is in Singapore.

  1. The order syncs from Shopify into "To Ship" with the Los Angeles address.
  2. You open it, select your Singapore origin, and enter 400 g and the mailer dimensions.
  3. You fill two customs lines: "Cotton T-shirt, printed", quantity 2, unit value as sold, country of origin as the country where they were made.
  4. The services available from Singapore to that address appear side by side with prices and transit estimates. You pick the tracked service whose estimate fits the delivery window your store promised.
  5. You buy the label. The wallet is debited, the label and customs paperwork are ready to print, and the tracking number is posted back to the Shopify order.
  6. You hand the parcel to the carrier with the paperwork attached.

If the same buyer had ordered a US-stocked item, you would have selected the US origin at step two and seen USPS, UPS, FedEx and DHL domestic rates instead.

How do you run two origins without confusion?

Sellers with stock in both countries usually settle on one rule: the order ships from whichever origin has the item in stock, and the queue is filtered by origin during a fulfillment session. Work the Singapore orders first because international parcels need customs lines and take slightly longer per label, then switch to the US origin and move quickly through domestic orders. Saved product weights and dimensions carry across both origins, so the package fields prefill either way.

For questions about wallet top-ups, voids and how a refund returns to the wallet, see the FAQ. Current per-label details are on the pricing page.

What are the common mistakes?

  • Vague customs descriptions that trigger inspection.
  • Declaring the ship-from country as the country of origin when the goods were made elsewhere.
  • Choosing an untracked service for a marketplace order and having no proof of delivery when a claim arrives.
  • Forgetting the buyer may owe duties or taxes on arrival. Say so on your shipping policy page.
  • Quoting a US delivery estimate at checkout that no available service can meet.
