A Shippo alternative built for Etsy sellers

Carrier rate in, carrier rate out.

GoatLabels replaces Shippo's plan tiers with pay-as-you-go labels rate-shopped across USPS, UPS and FedEx (DHL abroad), funded by a prepaid wallet with no monthly fee for up to 50 shipments a month.

USPS, UPS and FedEx on every domestic Etsy parcel

USPS, UPS and FedEx quoted together on the small, light, oddly-shaped parcels Etsy shops actually mail; DHL on international lanes.

Etsy sellers, side by side

Is GoatLabels cheaper than Shippo for Etsy orders?

Both tools print multi-carrier labels for Etsy orders. The difference shows up in the arithmetic of a handmade catalogue: Shippo's web app is free up to 30 labels a month and then bills a monthly Pro plan by label band, while GoatLabels is free up to 50 shipments a month and charges the label price from a prepaid wallet. When the average order is a $14 print in a rigid mailer, any fixed fee lands on the smallest orders hardest.

  GoatLabels Shippo
What a single label costs you One all-in label price with no separate per-label platform fee. No per-label fee on labels bought at Shippo's rates. Starter stops at 30 labels a month, and a fee applies only to Starter labels on your own carrier account.
What a slow month costs Nothing. There is no monthly fee on Free (up to 50 shipments a month), so a quiet January is a $0 January. Nothing on Starter, up to 30 labels a month. Above that, a Pro plan bills for its period whether or not you shipped.
Fit for Etsy order sizes A per-label fee hurts most on a $4 sticker order — so there isn't one. Small parcels keep their margin. No per-label fee at Shippo's rates. Past 30 labels a month the cost is a monthly Pro plan, which weighs most on a small shop in a slow month.
Getting an Etsy order in Etsy sync into the To Ship queue, or paste the order, or drop a screenshot of the custom-order convo. Etsy store sync, CSV import, or the API. A screenshot is not an input.
Carriers rate-shopped USPS, UPS, FedEx (domestic); DHL (international), with live all-in rates. Discounted USPS, UPS and FedEx labels plus DHL Express on every plan, plus a broader carrier list.
AI help drafting a label Billy reads a message, a screenshot, or your voice into a drafted label — unlimited on Free. Not the model. Orders are expected to arrive already structured.

Why do Etsy sellers switch from Shippo?

Fixed fees weigh most on small orders

Etsy baskets skew small and single-item. A flat fee per label takes the same bite out of a $6 earring order as a $90 one, which is exactly backwards for a handmade shop. A monthly plan does the same thing in a slow month, and Shippo's free Starter plan stops at 30 labels a month. GoatLabels charges one all-in label price with no separate per-label platform fee, so the label cost scales with the parcel instead of the transaction count.

Your volume is seasonal and a subscription is not

Most Etsy shops have a Q4 and then a long quiet stretch. A prepaid wallet matches that shape: pre-fund before the holiday rush and print all December; on Free (up to 50 shipments a month) the weeks on vacation mode cost nothing, and a December past 50 needs Pro ($40 a month, no minimum term), which you can cancel in January.

Half your orders are custom-order conversations

Personalisation requests, wholesale enquiries, and repeat buyers who message rather than reorder never reach a structured order feed. Billy reads that message or a screenshot of it and drafts the whole label — addresses, parcel, and service — for you to confirm.

And when you should stay on Shippo

  • You need a carrier outside USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL — that four-carrier list is the honest one, and Shippo's network is broader.
  • You print 30 or fewer labels a month, where Shippo Starter is free too, or a steady 51 to 500, where Shippo Pro's band costs less per month than GoatLabels Pro. The Shippo fee calculator shows where that flips.
  • You already have a working Shippo setup feeding a fulfilment partner and nobody on your team is unhappy. A comparison page is not a reason to migrate.

What Shippo's own pages say, checked 2026-10-17

  • Shippo's Starter web plan is free for up to 30 labels a month, with one user login and email support. (Shippo pricing page)
  • Pro is priced by monthly label band, from $19 a month (or $205 a year) for 1-200 labels to $199 a month (or $2,149 a year) for 5,001-10,000 labels, and Premier is quoted by Shippo's sales team. (Shippo pricing page)
  • On Starter, labels bought through your own connected carrier account cost $0.05 each, while connecting your own account is free on Pro and Premier. (Shippo pricing page)
  • Pro labels beyond 10,000 a month are billed at $0.08 per label. (Shippo pricing page)
  • Shippo's pricing FAQ lists postage, a subscription plan fee where one applies, optional insurance and an optional global address validation fee per lookup as the charges, with no hidden fees. (Shippo pricing page)
  • Discounted USPS, UPS and FedEx labels plus DHL Express are included on every web app plan, Starter included. (Shippo pricing page)
  • API Starter includes 30 free labels a month, then charges $0.07 per label, and API Premier is custom-priced. (Shippo API pricing page)
  • Standalone API calls are billed per use at $0.02 per tracking request, $0.01 per rate generation, $0.03 per delivery estimate, and $0.02 per US or $0.08 per non-US address validation. (Shippo API pricing page)
  • For labels on Shippo's own carrier accounts, refunds for unused labels must be requested within 90 days of purchase, are processed within 14 business days, and are credited to your Shippo account on your next invoice. (Shippo help: refund a label created in Shippo)
  • Plans can be changed or cancelled at any time from the Plan page in the app or through Shippo support, and a downgrade takes effect at the end of the billing cycle. (Shippo pricing page)

Etsy orders end to end

Sync the Etsy queue. Handle the custom orders too.

Connect Etsy and orders land in the To Ship queue with tracking pushed back the moment you print — the part any shipping tool owes you. What Shippo has no field for is the other half of an Etsy shop's day: the buyer who messaged about a custom size, the wholesale enquiry, the market-stall sale you promised to post on Monday. Paste that message, drop a screenshot of it, or say the address out loud, and Billy fills in the recipient, the parcel, and the service, then hands you a draft to confirm. Every label is a debit against a prepaid wallet funded by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, or crypto, so on Free there is no monthly fee standing between you and a printed label, and the quote you accepted for USPS, UPS, FedEx, or DHL is the exact amount that leaves the balance.

Leaving Shippo should not cost you the carriers, the store sync, or the API. Those all came with you. What changes is the billing: labels are paid from a prepaid wallet, and Free runs to 50 shipments a month where Shippo Starter stops at 30. What is new is an assistant that turns an Etsy message into a drafted label.

The packing table, not the desk

An Etsy convo is a valid order input.

Shippo expects the order to already exist somewhere it can read. When a buyer messages about a custom size, you become the integration — retyping a name, an address, and a weight into a laptop you are not sitting at. GoatLabels takes the message itself, on the phone that is already next to the tape gun.

Paste the Etsy message or drop a screenshot — Billy pulls out the buyer, the address, and the parcel.
No CSV export and no import mapping: the message is the order record.
USPS, UPS and FedEx come back as all-in prices on one screen, DHL on international lanes.
Buy from the prepaid balance and one-tap print to a share sheet or a thermal printer over Wi-Fi.
Hold the mic at the packing table and say the address — Billy drafts it and reads the rate back.
Hands full of tissue paper

Talk to Billy, not to an import screen.

Packing an Etsy order is a two-hands job, and Shippo's answer is a form. Hold the mic, say who it is going to, and Billy looks up the buyer, rate-shops USPS, UPS and FedEx (DHL on international lanes), and queues the label against your prepaid balance, then answers for it afterwards when the buyer asks where the parcel is. This is the real product, not a render.

Shippo alternative for Etsy sellers — FAQ

Is GoatLabels a good Shippo alternative for an Etsy shop?
For most small-parcel Etsy shops, yes. Shippo is capable multi-carrier software: its free Starter plan covers up to 30 labels a month, and past that its Pro plans bill monthly or annually by label band. GoatLabels charges one all-in label price with no separate per-label platform fee, funded from a prepaid wallet with no monthly fee on Free (up to 50 shipments a month), which suits a catalogue of low-value handmade orders and a season that goes quiet.
Does GoatLabels connect to Etsy?
Yes. Etsy orders sync into the To Ship queue and tracking is pushed back to the order when you print the label. Shopify, WooCommerce, eBay and Wix sync the same way, and you can also work with no connector at all by pasting an order or dropping in a screenshot.
Is there a fee per label?
No platform fee is added to a label. The all-in carrier rate you accept is the exact amount debited from your prepaid wallet, and if you void the label, that amount is credited back to the balance after the carrier accepts the void.
Which carriers can I compare?
USPS, UPS and FedEx, quoted side by side as live all-in rates on every domestic parcel, with DHL on international lanes. That is the complete list. If your Etsy shipping depends on a carrier outside it, Shippo's broader network is a fair reason to stay.
What happens in a month when I sell nothing?
Nothing is charged. There is no monthly fee and no subscription on the free plan, so a month on vacation mode costs zero. The wallet balance you already funded simply stays where it is.
Can I try it without disconnecting Shippo?
Yes, and it is the sensible way to compare. Keep your current setup running, put one real Etsy order through GoatLabels, and compare the all-in rate against what the same label costs you on Shippo, plan fee included. Nothing has to be torn out first and the overlap costs you nothing.
Does the AI assistant cost extra?
No. Billy drafts labels from a pasted message, a screenshot, or a spoken address unlimited in the web app on the free plan. Pro adds Billy on Telegram so you can draft a label without opening the dashboard.
