GoatLabels keeps Pirate Ship's no-subscription model but rate-shops four carriers per parcel, so shipments where FedEx or DHL is cheapest are no longer off the table.
USPS and UPS came with you. FedEx and DHL are the two that were never on the menu.
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, or crypto — one prepaid balance, no plan to clear.
Pirate Ship is genuinely good at what it covers, and the reason people look for an alternative is almost never the billing model — it is the moment a parcel would have been cheaper or faster on FedEx or DHL and there was no way to find out.
| GoatLabels | Pirate Ship | |
|---|---|---|
| Carriers rate-shopped | USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL, quoted side by side on the same parcel. | USPS and UPS — the two carriers their platform sells. |
| What happens when FedEx wins | It shows up in the quote list and you buy it in the same click as any other label. | It doesn't come up, because FedEx isn't quoted at all. |
| Cost to keep the account open | Nothing. Fund a wallet, pay per label, ship nothing in February and pay nothing. | Also nothing — this is the part worth keeping, and we kept it. |
| How you fund labels | Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH bank transfer, or crypto into one prepaid balance. | Pay-as-you-go per label. |
| Getting an order into the tool | Store sync, API call, pasted DM, voice note, or a screenshot Billy reads. | Manual entry, CSV, or a store connection. |
| Programmatic access | Public REST API — rate, buy, void, track — free and unlimited on every plan. | No public API to build against. |
Pirate Ship is a trademark of its owner and is not affiliated with GoatLabels. Their carrier lineup and rates change — check their current site before you decide.
A big, light box is priced on the space it occupies, and the carriers do not agree on how to charge for that. With two carriers you see two answers to that question. With four you see four, and the spread on a bulky parcel is where the difference actually shows up.
Express is exactly the lane where FedEx and DHL compete hardest. If a buyer needs it overnight and your tool only quotes two carriers, you are not choosing the fastest cheap option — you are choosing between the two you happen to have.
International is the clearest case of all: DHL and FedEx run their own cross-border networks, and a quote list without them is missing the services those networks were built for. Four quotes on one screen, one all-in number each.
Nothing about the pricing model changes: you fund a prepaid wallet with card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH, or crypto, and each label is a debit against it, so a month with no orders costs nothing. What changes is the middle step. Instead of comparing USPS against UPS and buying the better of two, every parcel is quoted against USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL at once, each as one all-in number that is exactly what leaves your balance. Orders arrive however they arrive — a store connector, an API call, a pasted DM, or a screenshot Billy reads — and print from your phone or a thermal printer when you confirm the draft.

Connectors, REST API, DMs, and screenshots — one queue, no import mapping.
No monthly minimum to print. The winning carrier is whichever one won that parcel, not whichever one was available.
Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, and TikTok Shop sync into To Ship and push tracking back when you print. Orders that never became a record — a DM, a comment, a screenshot — go through Billy instead, and either way the parcel gets quoted against all four carriers before you buy.
Via AI tiles: an order that never became a record still becomes a label.
The no-subscription model, the pay-per-label math, and the plain workflow all came with you. What is new is the width of the quote — FedEx and DHL alongside USPS and UPS — plus AI drafting and a public API that had no equivalent before.
Card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, ACH bank transfer, and crypto all top up the same balance, and every method buys identical rates, carriers, and features. Void a shipment and the credit lands back in the wallet.
A DM, a comment thread, a voice note, a screenshot — Billy reads any of them and drafts the whole label, then preselects the cheapest of the four carriers for that parcel. Nothing to retype, nothing to map.
The part you liked stays intact: no monthly minimum to print, fund the wallet, pay per label. Pro is an optional flat plan for when volume makes cheaper label pricing worth it — never a gate on printing.
USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL as four live all-in numbers on the same parcel, and the one you pick is the exact amount that leaves your balance. Two of those four are the reason this page exists: a bulky box, an overnight commitment, or an international leg is where FedEx and DHL stop being theoretical. Shopify, Etsy, WooCommerce, and TikTok Shop sync into To Ship and get tracking pushed back when you print, but a connector is never a prerequisite.
REST and JSON, one Bearer header, idempotency keys so a retry cannot double-buy a label, and signed webhooks for tracking and label events instead of polling. The dashboard and the API buy from the same balance.

Comparing two carriers is something you can hold in your head. Comparing four is not, and it should not have to be — the phone does it, shows you four all-in prices on one screen, and buys the winner from the prepaid balance.
Say who the parcel is going to and how big it is. Billy looks up the buyer, quotes USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL, tells you which one came out cheapest and by how much, and queues the label against your prepaid balance — then answers for it afterwards. This is the real product, not a render.

Plain English in — names, addresses, weights, carriers, services · four carriers quoted every time · reads the all-in rate back before a cent leaves the wallet · phone, browser, or Telegram.
The same parcel priced by more than one carrier, each an all-in number that is exactly what leaves your prepaid balance. Nothing arrives the day after with an adjustment on it, and voiding a shipment credits the wallet rather than a card statement three weeks out.

Free covers 50 shipments a month with all four carriers, the public API, the store connectors, and Billy unlimited underneath it — we make a little on each label instead. Pro is a flat monthly fee for unlimited shipments and cheaper label pricing. Neither one is a minimum you have to hit before a label prints, which is exactly the part of Pirate Ship worth keeping.

If every parcel you send is small, domestic, and already cheapest on USPS, two carriers is a complete answer. These are the sellers for whom it is not.
TikTok Shop & live commerce
A drop ships bubble mailers and bulky boxes in the same night, and those two shapes rarely win on the same carrier. Four quotes per parcel means the split happens automatically instead of by rule of thumb.

Etsy & independent creators
Weight and dimensions are where carriers diverge most, and FedEx and DHL price them differently enough to matter. Being able to see all four answers is the whole point.

The API is what every shipping API pretends to be. Idempotency that actually works.
