How much does shipping insurance cost on GoatLabels?

Accepted Answer

Typically 1% of the insured value for US shipments and 1.5% for international, with a $0.49 minimum, on insured values up to $10,000 per package. The premium is pure pass-through — what the insurer charges, nothing added — and the exact figure is shown on every rate before you buy. What value is insured?

The declared value of the goods on the shipment, plus the label price when “Include shipping cost” is on in Settings → Insurance, up to $10,000 per package. The premium is a percentage of that insured value.

Is the premium the same on every carrier?

Accepted Answer

The product and its rules are the same on every carrier option, and the premium is the insurer's charge with nothing added. Some UPS services price coverage on UPS’s declared-value schedule, so the premium can differ between carrier options — the exact premium is on every rate row before you buy.

How do I file an insurance claim for a lost or damaged package?

In the dashboard (Insurance → File a claim) or through the API (POST /v1/claims). Lost packages can be filed 20 days after the last tracking update for US shipments (30 days international); damage can be filed as soon as you find it; every claim must be filed within 90 days of the ship date. We file it with the insurer within 1 business day, chase it, and credit your GoatLabels wallet the day the insurer pays. The insurer decides the claim; we relay its decision and reason.

The insurer decides every claim. GoatLabels files it with the insurer within 1 business day, chases it, relays the decision and reason, and credits the approved amount (up to the insured value) to your GoatLabels wallet the day the insurer pays. Claims are never paid to a card.

Can I claim a lost package if I did not buy insurance?

Yes, up to what the carrier includes: UPS and FedEx include up to $100 of declared value per package ($50 on UPS Ground Saver), and USPS Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express and Ground Advantage include up to $100 of insurance. File it from the same Insurance page and we handle the carrier claim for you. Above those amounts you need shipping insurance, chosen per shipment when you buy the label.
